There are places that deserve to be visited at least once in a lifetime—San Felice is undoubtedly one of them. An ancient medieval village nestled among the vineyards of the Chianti hills in Castelnuovo Berardenga, it is home to a luxury albergo diffuso, two restaurants, and, above all, one of the most renowned wineries in the region. While deeply rooted in history, San Felice is firmly focused on the future. What does the future hold for San Felice? “We strive to represent the identity and production of Castelnuovo Berardenga through our wines. I can share a preview of an exciting project we&#8217;re currently working on. The soils of San Felice have three distinct geological origins. The predominant type is the classic macigno del Chianti (galestro and alberese), but there are also two areas with completely different compositions—one with a sandier base and another with a more clay-rich structure. Our goal is to produce three Gran Selezione wines from the same vintage, each 100% Sangiovese, sourced from these three different soils, allowing each to express the unique character of the grape in that particular year. This would ideally represent the pinnacle of our quality pyramid. It’s a long and complex process, but one that would provide a deeper understanding of San Felice’s identity and diversity.”
